I've swapped the uni library and it's textbooks for the City Library and it's fabulous fiction.
3. Brand New Friend - Mike Gayle
And the only books I got were 'trash reads for sunny days'. This was eerily close to the bone, with regards to a long distance relationship, involving a female medical student and her boyfriend. Boyfriend moves in, has no friends. Finds friend, but it's a she. Cue much insistence of platonicy (platonicism? platonicity?) before inevitable duvet fumbles. Fortunately (for my sanity), he marries the girlfriend and the girl-friend (complicated!) moves on. Makes me wonder what life will be like once R moves up here (2 years to go - he needs to graduate first), seeing as I will have a firm network of friends, and the hospital, and he will just have me. Good book though, if only for its relevancy.
4. Running In Heels - Anna Maxted
Gah far too long! Far too many twists! I thought I was at the end, then realised I still had 2/3 of the damn thing left to read! Well written though, and somehow managed to create Natalie as fallen, but partly responsible, and the anorexia was introduced with subtlety, which helped it add to the plot without detracting from the other storylines. I got far too absorbed in the character - when I get into a book, even if it's rubbish, I end up in the story. For the first minute or so after putting it down, I was anorexic with a new found love of Pilates and a unsteady family. Made having a late snack guilt-ridden, that's for sure!
